It is May 18 and I am still in sweats and running the furnace. So much for global warming!
How 'bout you? Which is more suitable to your weather? Sweats or shorts? Do you live North, South, East, West or Southwest of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania?

Kansas City, Mo... summertime is dreadful... shorts all the way. I am not a huge sweats guy anyway.

Memphis here... The temp right now is 58. Very unusual for this time of year. I don't do sweats though. Scrubs for me. I have my home scrubs and my work scrubs. LOL
When it hits 115 with the heat index here, I'll be in shorts though.

Richmond, IN here. It is a gorgeous day out with shorts. I'm not a fan of sweats so I try to stay away from them. Since I don't go for sweats, I go for the bluejeans. ;0

I live in New York and I always wear a sweatshirt with Capri's along with my Bear Claw boots. Except for when I am going work. Work attire is scrubs.

Saturday I hosted an outdoor dinner/pool party for 16:( I wore my bathing suit and cabana pants. It became a pool/dinner party because the weather man said 102:eek:
Sunday I wore only a bathing suit since it was also 102.
Today at 98, I am in shorts, but I also had to go to work! Soon I will be back in B suit:)
I never wear sweats unless I am freezing and that rarely happens. Jeans and thick socks all the way:D

I know women like that. They sit in the livingroom fanning themselves with the ceiling fan on and the furnace at 64 degrees on a 10 degree winter day.
Then they tell me there is something wrong with me when I say I am cold.
spitvenom
May 19, 2009, 10:22 AM
My wife is like you NO. She is always cold. When I go to sleep I turn the heat off open windows she freezes. I offer to close the windows but she said being cold is better then you getting all sweaty and ruining the sheets.

Mauritius, 60 to 70 F, but quite cold lately. Some kind of anticyclone nearby... Specialists expect the lowest temperature to reach 40 F this winter, the lowest Mauritius has ever had.

We have a tempurpedic bed. That thing just keeps your body heat right on you. If we didn't have that bed I wouldn't need to open the windows. It get unbearably hot in the middle of the night.

Alty
May 20, 2009, 08:03 AM
What are these shorts things you all are talking about? ;)
I'm in Canada, Alberta to be exact. It snowed yesterday, snowing today, tomorrow it's supposed to be 13 degrees Celsius, 21degrees by Saturday. I'll be in shorts come Saturday.
The saying here is 10 months of winter, 2 months of construction. ;)

holy crap! i would go crazy because of all the snow. i can handle a few months, but 11! holy cow!!!
Well that's just the joke. ;)
Actually we usually have snow come October, November at the latest and it usually lasts until around March. But, it starts getting chilly in September, jackets, boots, mitts and doesn't really warm up enough to go sans jacket until May.
Alberta really isn't that bad considering other Canadian provinces and our summers are nice, really hot.
The sad thing right now, my tulips are in full bloom and it's snowing. There's something really wrong with that. ;)

May 20, 2009, 08:15 AM

May 20, 2009, 08:17 AM
Love the tulips, sadly they don't like the snow, they're not fairing so well. You'd think they'd be used to it by now. ;)
I have a few perennials in my front planting area, but I prefer to change it up every year so I usually go with annuals.
The rule is never to plant until after the May long weekend. Well, that was this last weekend and here it is snowing. So much for that rule. ;)
I'll wait until mid June this year.

In Philly anywhere between 40 degrees all the way down to 20 degrees. My football coach in high school always wore shorts he said it was mind over matter so I started that also. Sometimes the matter over takes the mind though.
Unknown008
May 20, 2009, 11:42 AM
LOL! Ok, spitevenom, you football coach is a strong person at mind :p
Alty, I bet all these weird things about temperature and season is linked with global warming... It is said that even if the gas emissions are stopped, the Earth will still warm up due to that excess of carbon dioxide. :(

Yeah I went to a gardening class the other week and the girl said they want to change the planting guidelines for where I live from a zone 5 to a zone 6 because of global warming.
I didn't know if I should laugh or cry cause we have global cooling and nobody seems to see it. It use to be HOT from Easter to Labor day. Now we are lucky if June and July get hot.

Everywhere is getting hotter in summer and colder in winter :( The temperature gaps are widening... Come to it, my physics teacher once mentioned that Mauritius have had snow, in the form of hail (is that like ice balls?) Well, that was a year or two ago but it was short lived.

I used to live in the Chicago area and 'hail' would destroy your car. Golf balls the weight of lead (or seems like it) would come down and just dent, dent, dent! Insurance does wonders! :)

A little further south here... hon. All the trees have bloomed and the flowers on them are gone also... except the Dogwood Tree... it is still beautifully flowered with a ton of little pink flowers.
Marta told me that they were pink... remember I am color blind to red, pink and green... the only way I know that the grass needs watered is if the blades are all sloped over... he hee.. it always looks brown. All reds and greens are different shades of... brown, always have been... I enjoy drawing and painting... when I was in 5th grade a teacher made fun of me in front of the whole class because I painted the grass in my painting brown... oh well... I'm sure she won an award for her sensitivities.

We had a boy at our school who was completely color blind... yup, black white and grey only...
It's strange that most color blind people can't see red and green. They are completely different!
I know there is some scientific explanation... it just baffles my tiny brain is all :D

Actually most women are not color blind at all... however, most women carry the color blindness gene and pass it on to their male children. Poor guys... short end, again... (sigh).
Almost every time that I mention this to people they will inevitably tpoint to something that they are wearing and ask: "what color is this?" I always say "red"...dah...(I'm not too stupid). Why would they point to something blue? Or, they will ask: "how do you know that the traffic light changes to red?" I answer "well, I watch the car beside me....if they move, I take off..." (he hee). Actually you learn to make adjustments, you learn that the red light is usually the one at the bottom or to the right on the traffic light... and of course there is always completely bent over grass...
Just have to be more observant... life's little burdens...

'we have to talk!") I can see most basic colors but no greens or reds OR any color that has those colors in them such as pink. Now they have all these variations of many more reds, pinks, greens... can you even begin to imagine my dilemma when Marta took me to the paint store when we had the inside of our home painted!? Headaches... Maybe an entire orchard. Hee, hee.
She's an annoying neighbour.
She's widowed but started dating someone shortly after her husband died. She's in her late 50's early 60's. Our front yards connect, small front yards to begin with.
When she first moved in she complained about mowing the lawn, so we started mowing it for her. That's what neighbours do, right? Well she came over one day and complained that we hadn't been giving her lawn enough water. Um, what? You have water dear, do it your lazy a$$ self.
So I told her we'd water both lawns but alternate hoses so that we're not paying for all the water. She didn't understand why, didn't like that idea so she paid $10,000 to have her entire yard ripped up and put rocks in. It looks horrible. It looks like someon buried an elephant under rocks in her yard. The yard is simply too small to pull off a rock garden.
Well, her new boyfriend has a dog, she doesn't like dogs (she's living next to the wrong person) and doesn't want the dog in her house, so she lets it wander the neighbourhood. Since the dog obviously can't potty on the rocks she sends it to our yard to do it's thing. My front yard is a dog poo/pee free zone. My own dogs aren't allowed to deficate or urinate on my front yard. That's where the kids play. Not okay!
So I asked her to please stop letting the dog kill my grass. Her response, "what's the big deal, it's only poo, just pick it up". Alrighty then. Scoop the poop and throw it into her rocks.
Ya, I don't do well with annoying people. :(

Same shape yes, same content no.
Rabbit poo is mostly grains. They have a wicked digestive system.

It's a great book kids, really, read it!
It's all about bunnies and the will to survive when their world is turned upside down.
The story revolves mainly around one bunny that decides that it's time to leave the home he's lived in forever because there's danger.
A few of the rabbits go with him and they start to travel hoping to find a new home and mates.
Of course there are a lot of obstacles that they encounter and... wait, why am I telling you?
Read the book! :)

I like skirts, they're fun. I wear alot of skirts in the summer and spaghetti strap tops.
Of course you can't go commando in a skirt, one swift wind and you're in jail for indecent exposure. :(
Summer skirts or simple dresses with flip flops. 3rd choice is shorts. I'm on the hot side about three quarters of the year, so sweats in the dead of winter only.

It's been raining nonstop for the past 5 days.

Another 5 days of this crap...

Exactly! My neighborhood pool opened 3 weeks ago and I have yet to go because of the skitzo weather. Rain, shine, rain, shine, but hey the grass is growing like crazy. And speaking of crazy, the humity/rain combo is playing havoc with my hair. Haven't had a good hair day in about a month.
Yes, GRITS stands for Girls raised in the south. There is even a book by that name. Plus, there is nothing like a good hot bowl of grits with butter from The Waffle House. It's right up there with a fresh warn Krispy Kream donut.

All reds and greens are different shades of... brown, always have been... I enjoy drawing and painting... when I was in 5th grade a teacher made fun of me in front of the whole class because I painted the grass in my painting brown... oh well... I'm sure she won an award for her sensitivities.

It really upsets me when idiot adults have influence over a child's self esteem. Some of the teachers I've witnessed are appalling. Parents too.:(

Grits have no taste by themselves... you have to paste them with sugar, butter, maple syrup, and (ice cream) to like 'um... I lived in Raleigh for 5 years and I tried and tried... but...

I got some payback though... the next year I did a 'finger painting' that the principle thought was pretty good and sent it around to all the local schools to post it at the entrances. She apparently said then that 'well, that one couldn't be screwed up... '

Maybe you have to have been brought up on them. Sugar, syrup, ice cream, yuk! Don't put anything sweet in them. That's for oatmeal. You've seen the Quaker Oats variety pack oatmeal haven't you? They also have variety pack grits. Grits, with butter, or cheese, or bacon bits and more. One thing I could never wrap my mouth around was "cream of wheat." Disgusting. Slimey.
