Somehow my bar is a wide black bar. How do I change it to a slimmer on?

I'm assuming you're talking about the "task bar" at the bottom of the screen. Somehow it's too thick (wide). Right?

Move the mouse cursor to the top edge of the task bar. The cursor will change from a normal pointed mouse cursor to a double-headed vertical arrow -- one arrow pointing up, the other pointing down. When you see that, click the left mouse button and slowly move the cursor downsare while holding the mouse down. The task bar should shrink. Be careful or you can shrink it to nothing. But don't worry, if you do that, you can expand it the same way.
