My wife and I are experiencing troubles with the lighting part of our Hampton Bay ceiling fan. The bulbs that came with the unit (at least we think they came with it) seemed OK but one bulb burnt out prematurely. We just thought that maybe it was defective. We then changed the bulbs to and when we did we noticed one of the fluorescent bulbs "flickering" after the remote's light switch was turned off, which was also the same socket that the original bulb had burned out. (After reading some of the questions and answers on this site we will replace the with .) Is this coincidence or is there some small voltage getting through to just this one socket? I also heard of solenoid problems and does this apply here? The fluorescent flickering in the one bulb does go out if we turn off the wall switch.

Does it eventually stop flickering after a few minutes - or does it continuously do so without ever going out? I've seen some fluorescent lights that flicker for a few minutes after being turned off - check this bulb in another lamp and see if it does the same thing. Also, some fans have a dimmer circuit to the lights which converts AC to DC - most fluorescent lights will not function properly in a dimmer circuit. Try using regular incandescent bulbs instead...

What model fan is it and what sort of bulbs?

I had the same problem when I replaced incandescent bulbs with fluorescent bulbs. I never figured it out, just went back to incandescent.

You can not use fluorescent bulbs in remote-controlled fans because most remote controls include a dimmer function.
