Hello, I was originally an (artificial) caramel-blonde and decided to go dark; I got it dyed professionally and the colours were as follows: 1/2 4BBC, 1/2 5BGB + 100d (does that mean anything to anyone?). My hair went so dark, almost black but after about 2 washes it went redish and now has lightened more and still has the red (see attachment). I am now overseas and can't really afford to go to a salon all the time- I was thinking to perhaps try a dark brown semi-permanent with green undertones to neutralize the red- what level/ colour would anyone recommend I try? I have never dyed my hair myself before so have no idea... I just want a plain dark brown, say Katie Holmes type colour...

"green" and "red" mix to become brown, so you need more green to neutralize the red.
Here's a link to some information about base colors
helpful info about bases! (http://www.network54.com/Forum/127834/message/1241493888/More+helpful+info+about+bases)!
I'm not sure if you can get the bases you specified.
Your hair is too dark for your complexion. Try a lighter brown -- probably significantly lighter. Katie Holmes' color is too dark for you.

Yeah it is darker than I wanted, but I'm not going to try and get it lighter by doing it myself that would end in tears I'm sure! Think I will just have to give the neutralising a go then get it lighter again when I'm back home and have more money! :) thanks
