I have a carolina dog (as most know he is a wild breed of dog whom on the genetic tree are at the base like dingos not among the branches like other breeds of dogs. And under classicication in dog shows he is a "created breed" because of the fact he is technically a species not a breed just like lions and tigers are species not breeds of cats.) and they are quite well known for shedding quite a bit when in places that are colder then South Carolina where they are from. What I was wondering was what can I use to get the dog fur off my couches and stuff. I don't mind brushing him every day like I do but he tends to dig under the blankets on the couch and lay on the couch instead of the blankets.

I own two 2 Quart bowls for water and food. I clean these with soap and water once a week sometimes more depending on how much he drools when he eats (hehe it looks funny when he does) now when I cleaned it I cannot get his stainless steel bowl clean around the edges no matter how much I scrub... what could I use to get the caked on drool and crumblies ring that shows up and never seems to want to go away

Whenever my pets shed, I use the rolly sticky thing that you use to get those pesky little white things and hair off your clothes. They work pretty well for me. :)

We had some pound puppies that shed a lot, one mostly cocker and one somewhere between chow and golden. We found a product called "Smartbroom" that works really well on carpets and fabric. It's like a pushbroom with rubber bristles about a millimeter thick and a millimeter apart. Take it off the handle to do the couch. It pulls the hair away from the fibers and you can get them up really easily.

For the foodbowls have you tried those sponges with the scrubbing pad on one side? (Scotchbrite is one brand, there are others)

I'm a big fan of dog coats on extreme shedders.
Thin cotton coats for summer and heavier coats for winter. The fur catches inside the coat and not on your furniture.

To prevent shedding on furniture and get the dead hair out, brush your dog every day.

I do use a sponge with the scrubby side but it doesn't seem to want to take it off either

If the Dog bowls are left outside, it could be baked on from the sun and or heat. I use things that will clean mineral deposits or rust, but you still have to scrub. If it's not too bad try dry 'comet'. (not the liquid one) I have used this on outdoor glass tables that have mineral deposits on them.
Even if they are indoor bowls, one of those products should work and stainless isn't porous.

I used to use something similar to what Catsmine uses for the fur and it worked wonders. The best I've found so far and had been looking and de-furring for 17 years.:)

If the scrubbies don't work we go to the copper scrub pads ( I think the brand is "Chore Boy").

My mum just bought a sea sponge block to get the excess hair out of her great dane.

It's a block that looks like rock.. It's really hard and you just scrape one edge along the fur... works really well!

She got hers from the local horse shop :)

Thanks for all the awesome tips guys. The bowls are indoor bowls. We are in the process of moving right now and I`ll tell you poor ole rebel isn't too happy and the chinchillas are not either... they have to be moved last on account I need to take apart their cages ( I made them myself)

About your dogs shedding. I am a groomer and we use The shed ender. Works perfect. It really gets that under coat up and keeps down the shedding. Also sometimes the food can affect how much a dog sheds. As far as the bowls, I use a 1:30 ratio of bleach and water and soak my bowls. I have danes so I know about drool.

My boyfriends mother brought us home something called the furminator... it works well on his coat and we got one of them rubber broom ends and it seems to be doing awesome on the furnature. Lol ohh I bet danes drool. Each one I've ever seen has LMAO
