I'm replacing points and condenser on a old tiller. To a electronic ignition. A 5hp briggs and stratton motor. I don't know how to wire it up to the coil. Which side is hot and which side is cold. The new ignition comes with a naked wire attached to it. There's a eight inch coated wire with connector also (unattached) any input??

Well, think about it:

The bare has to be ground, right?

And there needs to be a way of killing the engine, so therefore the wire with the connector needs to be the kill wire. Kill wires traditionally kill the coil when grounded, so for a retroftit it needs to do the same.

If you could not figure this out then school told you "what to think" not "how to think", right?

Make sure there are not multiple magnets on the flywheel.
