Recently, I have had troubles in some areas of my house with low water pressure. My upstairs bathroom has good water pressue, but my downstairs bathroom and kitchen have very low pressure. We are on city water. Everything was working fine up until a few weeks ago. I'm not sure what to do to fix it or where to start looking.

Might be that you have scale build-up inside your pipes. How old is your house? You might need a re-plumb.

The house is about 50 years old

My house is about the same age we have galvanized pipes threw out. These pipes build up iron oxide,(rust) and this affects both volume and pressure. However, you might not be ready for a repipe job just yet. Shut vthe water off to one of the faucets and pull it apart. Check for debris and crud clogging the inlet ports of the cartridge. Noe turn both hot and cold supplies for a moment to flush them out. You should see a strong stream when you do this. If the stream's weak then let me know. Good luck, Tom
