I have two cats aged 8 yrs old who have never been around dogs. I recently introduced a 9 week old puppy. One of the cats constantly attacked the puppy, the other one just hid all the time, refused to eat or drink or even move, I had to return the puppy for fear of this cat dying. Does anyone know how I can introduce the puppy better as I really want to get him back. What was I doing wrong? Could my cat have actually died? Did I give up too soon? Is there any hope of me getting the puppy back? The puppy was very boisterous does this make it harder? I would be very grateful of any advice given. Thanks, Angie.

When I try to get pets use to each other I separate them with a cage or a screen.
Can you bring the puppy for visits and keep increasing the time as they get use to each other.

I have 4 cats and 2 dogs, you're cat won't die. It's best to have a room where the cats can go that's dog free until they get used to the dog. Animals tend to be more forgiving where a youngster is involved (puppy or kitten). Don't be so worried, if you're worried, the cats will pick up on that and worry too. If you act like it's no big deal, things will settle down in a week or two. Give the cats extra treats and love, and give everyone time. I have yet to have a cat and dog not get along, and I've had them mixed for 20 years.

Hi phoenix... I answered you question in the "dog" section.
