When I purchased my syrian hamster chico a month ago, I also purchased a bag of food the same food they had been feeding him at the pet store. Unfortunately the pet store is a2 hour drive from my house and I don't go there frequently. I looked all around my town but can not find the food. Its called EXTRUSION COMPLETE HAMSTER FOOD. Its in really big pellets shaped kind of like peanuts.

I was wondering if it is possible to change my hamster's food. And if so how do I go about it??

Could I even mix this pellet with another type of food or will this cause stress and bring on wet tail?? Also a worker at the pet store suggested pedialite(I think that's how its spelled) for trips or anything that may stress the hamster, will this truly help?

I had bought a rat a few months ago and always bought the food the pet store carried. Then I went in one time and ased for it and they said it was gone but I could feed it rat, hamster gerbal or rabbit food. They said that they all will at any of the food.. So I when to walmart and bought a 3 pound bag of gerbal food and he loves it and it is a lot cheaper.

Pedialite is an electrolite used to help retain fluids.
Unless the hamster has diarreah there's not much point in using it.
It would be the same as a dog I reckon, just introduce the new food very slowly...

Don't quote me on that though, I've never had hamsters!
