I have a Poulan/Weed Eater model FL20 string trimmer that is hard starting and will not run up to speed. It seems to be an air/fuel mixture problem, but there are no adjustment screws except idle adjustment. This model cost only about $65. Can the problem be fixed cheaply?

Weed eaters are set so close to run. I suggest to get New High test gas and mix that to start over. 2cycle needs good octane.

How's the plug look?
Air filter?
Fuel filter
Run some carb cleaner though it

I believe your answer was dead on. I had checked all the things you mentioned but had mixed regular gas. When I used a new mixture with premium gas it appeared to solve the problem. Thanks!

Glad it worked out. At times people think the gas is fine. Started enough construction tools to learn last falls gas isn't good and looses a lot of its octane to have hard starts. The worst gas storage is the plastic gas tanks that sit in sheds and heat up and cool down much more then metal cans. Condensation become the enemy
