I am taking out my lawn because it doesn't grow due to tall trees and no sun. I'm wondering what would be best to lay down to prevent a mud buildup. I have two dogs both runners.
Would 1/4 inch minus packed down be good enough or should I use a bigger rock?
Or is there something else I could use to prevent mud besides laying new turf?

What is the best size rock to use in a backyard? I'm taking out all grass and putting down rock instead. There are many sizes of rock for landscaping and I want to know which size is best. 1/4 inch minor? Riverrock? 1/4 ?
I also have active dogs
Sorry I got you confused

Getting closer. Landscape rocks makes a wall. Are you referring to flagstone like a patio effect.
Or crushed quarry limestone like a driveway?
Just post back an answer in everybody will pick up from here..

What size is the best to use on the ground? Not wall rock
I'm putting rock down instead of grass.
So its ground rock to cover the dirt and which ground rock is best with active dogs
I'm not building wall yet.
Thanks

There are a number of options, but the easiest is Liriope spicata - http://www.bloomindesigns.com/category/liriope/
