I purchased a business last June 2008, the seller misrepresented the business finances and cash flow. Her lease ended may 2008, at which time my lease with the lessor started on June 1. She refused to vacate the building and occupied the premises until July 3rd. I was a traveling nurse and was out of town on assignment. She pressured me into signing a contract or she would remove all equipment (fixed) or removable from premises. Under duress and not knowing until after the fact that any items such as carpet or permanent fixture installed to upgrade premises become property of lessor. The previous owner is now trying to sue me for $11,000.00. She has removed all receipts and customer recall information 4 months after the contract was signed. She has been a liar from the start. What are my options? She worked in my shop for 1 month under my paid lease and kept all monies paid during that time.

Get an attorney. You should have started with one to go over the sale arrangements and the books etc.

If she is suing you, you need representation and fast to prepare your response.
