Yesterday we noticed that a good amount of water had leaked from around our can light directly below the shower. (This was the first time we had a problem.) The drain itself seems to be in good working order because water poured directly into the drain does not cause any leaks. This is a Kohler one piece acrylic shower with no cracks. The drain cover, some type of metal gasket ring and plumbers putty have cracked and broken away leaving a gap for water. What needs to be done to reseal this type of leak.

Thanking you in advance for your help.

Hi Carol,

Sounds like you have a ruptured seal on the drains lip. I have put up a shower drain,(see image) If you can get underneath to loosen the nut and clear out the old seal let me know. If going in from the bottom's means tearing up the ceiling then dry under the lip as much as you can and force Silicon Jell under as much of the lip as you can. Wipe off the excess and let set up and dry. If the floor gives a little when you step in the shower then expect to be doing this again. Good luck om
