Hi, I have a Maytag GC2225GEKS side by side refrigerator / freezer. In the last few days, the freezer got progressively warmer as the compressor ran less and less, and now I've had to move everything into a different fridge / freezer. Here are the exact symptoms:

1) When I turn power on to the fridge / freezer unit, the compressor turns on for about 1/2 second, then turns off again. It won't start up again no matter what temperature I set.
2) When I open the fridge door, the compressor starts up, and turns off only when I close the door
3) I can get the compressor to work in service test mode (I will have to wait a minute or so before between each test of the compressor won't start - I assume that's a safety feature).
4) The main fan in the freezer (evaporator fan) won't start at all.
5) I can't get the main fan in the freezer (evaporator fan) to start in service test mode.

Could this be a controller board issue, or something as simple as a faulty thermostat? I am leaning more towards a controller board issue because the evaporator fan should still run even with a faulty thermostat.

Any thoughts appreciated.

I tested the thermistors circuits for resistance (from where the wires come into the controller board), and converting that back to temperature, they showed that they were working fine.

Based on the wiring diagram, it was clear that if the thermistors were working fine, the controller board should fire up the compressor, so I replaced the controller baord, and it's working now.

The evaporator fan issue was a red herring - it has a temperature sensitive switch sitting on the cooling tubes - it won't start until it is cold enough.
