Is it true that you can die faster by not getting any sleep, then by not getting any food?

I know this probably has been touched on before. Does anybody have any sleeping issues? Problems? Have you dealt with them or is it still haunting you.

For me, sitting here on my computer, feeling so tired. I get a bit funny or other things when I am so so tired. For example, it is almost as a feeling as your drunk and happy, but then there are those times where it has a negative effect on you.

How many hours of sleep do you get a night?

Joe.Firstly,I believe after 24 hours without sleep, you begin to halucinate, and start to believe your Bill Gates,or Steve Jobs,or something...
Then you go mad...
In a temperate climate, can't you go weeks without food, but only so many hours without water?
As for sitting at your PC,and feeling tired... join the club.I have my display set at 1280x720,and 32bit colour, and still I struggle.Maybe an eye test for me?
I usually like to get eight hours sleep a night, but with a six year old who at the moment, has a heavy cold... no chance.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!

I get about 2 to 3 but it will probably be less soon. Plus I do lots and lots and lots of driving which makes me feel even more tired.

I don't think you will die by lack of sleep sooner than you would die by lack of food.

There are insomniacs who have gone months without sleep. I can't imagine someone going months without food and surviving.

Of course, it wouldn't even take that long for lack of water.

Lack of sleep will make you crazy for sure... and not very pretty to look at.. but I don't think it will kill you very soon.

Long term lack of sleep is very unhealthy and could indriectly kill you that way... but I think it would be inflicted by something that lack of sleep would bring about.

Dear Jesushelper76 - If indeed you are getting by on 2-3 hours of sleep each night, and driving lots and lots, it will probably be an 18 wheeler that takes you out, not the lack of sleep. I have heard of those individuals who can survive on 4-5 hours of sleep each night, but not 2-3. For your sake, as well as other people on the road, either seek medical counsel or get a designated driver. Wishing you the best.

I get 7 hrs per day and try to squeeze a nap in after lunch got to have it. There are times I get less but I'm an early riser so after 9pm I'm not that social or already snoring. Except for when Law& Order is on and I try to see the end.(Thank God for the reruns on TNT) Now eating... whole nuther story.

I have read where lack of sleep will kill one sooner than a lack of food. I'm lucky if I get 7 hours a night. 5 1/2 is probably more typical for me, though I feel that I really ought to get more ; I don't think I'm doing myself any favors limiting myself to just 5 1/2 hours.

Sleep is very important.

I had sleeping problems going back about 6 months ago due to a few reasons
1. I had many many things on my mind.
2. a very uncomfy bed.

I remember sleepless nights, work nights I like to sleep not later than 11.30 - midnight.. 6 months if I was lucky id be asleep by 2am. I would toss and turn, end up getting out of bed going downstairs for a cuppa tea and a cigarette, total madness. Wake up for work at 7.30am and feel like sh*t. And it was a continuous issue. Come back home after work feeling extremely exshausted come bed time and I just couldn't sleep. I tried green teas, I tried tablets called Nytol and nothing would work.

Now I move to my new home with my hubby. I don't have many many things on my mind as my main issue months ago was getting my new apartment ready on time and besides now I sleep on a 6ft tempur matress :D
