I'm replacing the ceiling fan in our bedroom. Doing this at 13' adds to my frustrations. I have two wall switches, one for light, one for fan. Previous light and fan worked with no issues (hence, switch wiring is good). Wires from my ceiling are white, black, red and bare. New fan has remote control.
I hooked up the wires as follows: ceiling white to controller white, ceiling black to controller black, I capped red, bare to green (connected to mounting hardware). The controller to fan wiring was simple... black to black (motor), white to white (neutral), blue to blue (upper lights) and orange to orange (lower lights).
When I turn the light switch on, nothing works with the remote. When I turn the fan switch on, I can control the upper lights with the remote (hence, code is correct on the remote), but the fan does not work. I realize the switch issue is probably the red hot is for the light and the black hot is for the fan, so it's not really an issue. But I'm confounded by the fan issue. I would guess that either the controller is defective or the fan motor is defective.
Lastly, I have not hooked up the lower light kit (didn't want to take time to hook it up until I knew other stuff was working). Do I need to hook it up for the motor to work?
My light does not have any pull chains.
I hope I provided all the right info... if not, please ask for clarification.
Thanks in advance!!
