I put a new motor fan in outside A/C unit and the fan will not start.I also put in a new capacitor. The fan replacement motor has a brown wire, black wire, red wire, white wire,
Brown/white stripe wire.I connected the black wire to no 1 contactor. The white wire goes
To common terminal on capacitor. The brown/white stripe wire goes to fan terminal on the
Capacitor. Do I have something hooked up wrong ?

Motor may say on Name plate.
It may be brown and brown/white to cap.
Then it may be a 2 speed, white MAY even be a hot.
Someone else may add info.
What is the make/model Number?

Do you have 2 capacitors in unit now? One for compressor and one for fan motor?

Black to contactor, white to contactor

Both browns to the new capasitor. Tape off the red

The brown with white tracer is not used on a three wire install. The brown wire to the capacitor and the brown with white trace is caped off.

Joshdta, what is the red for? Thanks

Well it could be 2 things. Some motors are 2 speed with black being high red low, also some new motors will work on 115 or 220 volt and red is used on the 110 application.

I remembered seeing the white as a Hot before, you would think the white would be better used in the 120 volt application, and have red be one of the speeds?
Thanks
