- \frac 12 x = - \frac 78
Multiply both sides by -2
-2\,\times \, - \frac 12 \, x\, = \,-2\, \times\, - \frac 78
(-2\,\times \, - \frac 12) \, x\, = \,(-2\, \times\, - \frac 78)
Simplify and you're finished.
