I am hoping someone can help me before my a/c goes out. It is working & cooling just fine right now, with the exception of the rattle & noise the fan is making when it is on.

The noise starts about 15-25 seconds after the fan turns on. It was so loud last night that it woke me up. It starts soft, then gets a higher pitch to it.

I am hoping that it's just a belt that need tightened or some WD-40 job. But since I'm not up on A/C, I thought I'd ask for some advice.

Thanks.

Could be a lot of things,, first I'd check for dirty blower wheel then check motor for external oil... dirty filters are also something to check

Thanks.

After a technician spent about 3 hours on it, it stopped working altogether. It ended up needing a whole new motor. It turned out to still be under warranty! WOo HOO!

But, much of the wear on the motor was dust & dirt. Apparently, the previous owner of this house (we bought it in April) had NEVER had it serviced or changed the air filter like they should have. We changed it when we first moved in and knew it was more than due for a change. It was pretty bad when the service man took it out to repair it.

Anyway, all of this taught us to change filters often & get it serviced 2 times a year. We can't afford not to have a warranty on it, either.

Again, thanks for the advice.
