I want to build an outdoor chalkboard for my daughter to mount to our shed. We don't have a driveway for her to write on with sidewalk chalk. Two questions:

1. Will chalkboard paint survive outside for the summer? I can bring the board in the winter. It will be in direct sunlight.

2. If the paint will work, what is the best material to paint on for outdoor use?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Did you try this if so how did it turn out... I am planning on doing this. I have done a lot of research and here is my plan. I am going to buy some weather treated plywood and sand it done to make it smooth. You can purchase some outdoor chalkboard paint at a local hardware store. i.e... Lowes and Home Depot. I am going to paint the plywood and drill holes in to hang it on my fence. I am hoping this will entertain the childern for a while.

Sherwin Williams and Rust-o-leum both make chalkboard paint and neither will work if subject to rain. Both state indoors or covered patio.

There is an Australian company that makes an exterior chalkboard paint. Porter's Original Paints, they are based in Sydney, Australia. In the US they are sold under the name Sydney Harbour Paints.
