I bought this vehicle less than 3 months ago from CarMax. This past week I got in to start it and there was a loud knocking sound. It was towed to the Dodge Dealership where after disassembling my engine, they said that due to water damage, the engine had thrown a rod. The problem with this is that I have not been in any water except the puddles on the road and my warranty will not cover the damage that has occurred. What should I do. :confused:

Find out if Car Max will accept any responsibility. Even if they don't, I'd have Dodge repair it. Afterwards, only use 5W-30 full-synthetic engine oil and a premium oil filter (e.g. Purolator PureOne)--they offer a much higher level of protection.

How long did you run the vehicle with the knocking noise? Did Dodge give you an idea as to how the water got into the oil? Were you having any other issues with the vehicle?

I agree with txgreasemonkey in regards to finding out if CarMax will cover any portion of the repair. Otherwise, you can have an independent shop install a remanufactured engine for much less than the dealer will charge you.

In regards to my previous question, neither Dodge or Carmax will do anything to rectify the problem. Basically, I am stuck with a hunk of worthless metal that I will be paying for for the next 5 years. How is this possible?

When you purchased the vehicle, did you buy it "as is" or was there a limited warranty on it?
