OK, so I've had my piercing for a few months now, I recently changed it with a piece of jewlry from claire's (which probably wasn't the BEST place to go, but I could get it cheap, and it was cute.) and all of the sudden I started to get this bump thing on the side of it... its really gross! I love my nose piercing and apparently it does too because it just doesn't want to leave! It looks like this... (I found this picture online... )

Can someone please tell me if its any serious?? I'm really worried and I think it might be the jewelry... :/

Well, not being a dermatologist, that is what it sounds like you have developed. That is only going from your description. Your medical professional would better diagnose this for you. My niece developed the same symptom and had it treated without side effects.

This may help: Keloids (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000849.htm#Causes,%20incidence,%20and%20risk%20fac tors):

OK, thanks... it basically looks like a pimple thing on my nose... its nasty... my mom thinks that's its got puss in it and we've just got to wait for it to pop... ew...

But you never know... I might just have to go back and ask my piercer..

Most people mistake this for a keloid. This is not a keloid it looks like an overgrowth of scar tissue. If you Google keloid you will notice they tend to be very large and continue to grow.

Yes, it does look more like scar tissue. I'm not sure what material Claire's' jewelry is, but if it was plastic or acrylic you cold have an infection. Plastic, wood, acrylic, and bone are porous and should never be worn during the healing process with ANY piercing. I strongly suggest surgical steel (316L) or titanium jewelry and keep it very clean with a mixture of sea salt and warm water. Also do not turn your jewelry, unless you're cleaning it.

So I was looking for an answer to the nasty bump pimple looking thing on my nose piercing, and my jewelry is from claire's as well. The bump is on the inside of my nose though, and is whitish, and its getting more and more painful as the day goes on. I'm not finding any results for what a nose piercing infection looks like though. Can anyone help me? I'd be relieved if it's just scar tissue..

It's probably an infection. It can often times be mistaken with acne and it is similarly filled with pus or sometimes even blood.
It's very rare that a keliod would develop, espeically if you've never had a history with them.
This is an amazing article to help you clear that bump up : http://www.ehow.com/how_2039776_heal-piercing-bumps.html

The salt water rinse works very, very well (I know from experience).

I hope this helps. And remember if you've tried these remedies and if after a week you see no improvement, then I would go to the doctor to get it examined. :)

I have the same thing on my nose ring. It's the first time Ive had a bump like this, and its filled with pus. I do my own piercings, (5), and I've never had an infection. This... "bump" only popped about a day or so ago, and I don't think its something you need to be too worried about. It seems to be a minor infection, (unless its bleeding or leaking heavy amount of pus) and regular warm rinses with (NON IODIZED) sea salt (followed by rinsing the piercing site with fresh water) should clear it right up. (if you have a ring, GENTLY twist it in and out of your nose ONLY WHEN YOUR CLEANING IT, to get all the salt water inside the piercing, same goes for when your rinsing with fresh water). Make sure to not play with it, and keep your hands clean at all times, as well as your face. I hope this helps.
