I'm a guy and I'm 15 years old and 6 weeks ago (25-3-09) I collided with another player whilst playing football which gave me a small hairline fracture in my left knee cap, so I was out for 5 weeks

Today (30-4-09) I went and played a full 90 minute football match (we won 10-0:)), but it's the first sporting activity I've played since my fracture. I didn't want to miss out because a couple of my best mates play for the opposite team and I wanted to play against them because I was out for the other match against because of the fracture, so I couldn't miss out again.

My knee was perfectly fine but I couldn't really shoot or cross with it because I played on the left (luckily I'm right footed though). This wasn't the problem, the problem was my fitness and muscles. I was out of breath in the first 10 minutes, and in the 2nd half my muscles just tightened, I got cramp badly and I couldn't run. I asked to be substituted unfortunately halfway through the 2nd half because I knew enough was enough and carrying on would damage myself. Obviously I've had absolutely no training beforehand to get my fitness back

Any tips on how to get back to normal?

My usual training program when I am fit is:

Monday: Long distance running
Tuesday: Speed endurance
Wedensday: Long distance running and football training
Thursday: Free
Friday: Sprints
Saturday: Free
Sunday: Normally football or athletics match

I like your spirit. It is motivating to see someone with that kind of competitive instinct. Unfortunately I would suggest that you give this season up. You need more than 6 weeks to fully recover. You can put all your energy into your recovery. You are young and your body will seem like it will recover very fast, but it takes months to fully recover from a knee injury. I would recommend you ask your own doctor what he or she suggests. In the meantime I would concentrate more on making sure you get back to your best health before playing any more matches.
