Hi I am new her and go by the name "raincheck" we are looking at a house to buy and the swimming pool has a lot of spots where the paint is missing, there is also a crack in side of pool about 14" long running from top to bottom of wall of pool. I am wondering how the pool would get a crack in it, it should be about 10 years old. The backyard is either pool, decking or above the pool, the property slops down, above the pool is a large dirt area with plants it is a wet area in Houston and was wondering if the pressure from the wet earth could be pushing against the edge of pool? I see no other place in the back yard for underground water to flow except against pool. I am scared if we drain pool to paint and fix crack that the pressure of the water in the pool when gone will allow the side to simply break open, any ideas?

You are looking at a concrete bowl and all concrete eventually cracks. Basement floor crack, driveways crack , side walks crack, heck it all cracks. Beside concrete cracking that pool probably held 300 tons of water so its likely it settled. I would have a home inspector inspect the home and a pool specialist inspect the pool but you are probably just fine.
