Hello, My name is Barbara. I am the pet of Taffy who is 15 ys old. She is over weight and she runs our house with love. But last night she just quit walking she doesn't act like she is in pain she drinks water when I hold it for her but she has not gone to eat. I called the vet and she thinks its her back I've done the reserch on Dachunds and she doesn't act like the symptoms say she should. So I'm  I live in Germany.

15 years is pretty old for any dog.
I hate to be awful but you really need to get her to a vet.
Could be something wrong with her just from old age.
There are many treatments and pain relief available.
I pray it is something minor for you :)

Poor little girl.I would say that when it comes to symptoms of animals or people ,there are no hard and fast rules
The breed is known to have spinal problems, especially intervertebral disk disease (IVDD), due in part to an extremely long spinal column and short rib cage.[8] The risk of injury may be worsened by obesity, jumping, rough handling, or intense exercise, which place greater strain on the vertebrae.
Treatment consists of various combinations of crate confinement and courses of anti-inflammatory medications (steroids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like carprofen and meloxicam). Serious cases may require surgery to remove the troublesome disk contents.[9] A dog may need the aid of a cart to get around if paralysis occurs.
A new minimally invasive procedure called "percutaneous laser disk ablation" has been developed at the Oklahoma State University Veterinary Hospital.[10] Originally, the procedure[11] was used in clinical trials[12] only on dachshunds that had suffered previous back incidents. Since dachshunds are prone to back issues, the goal is to expand this treatment to dogs in a normal population.
In addition to back problems, the breed is also prone to patellar luxation.
The maximum life span is fifteen. It sounds as if she has led a very full life.
I think your vet is the best place to get help for her at this time.I wish you and Taffy the very best.

Sounds like you care a lot about her health :)
Those doggy steps are great.
For now try warming up her food or adding a little chicken broth to it to encourage her to eat.
You could also try putting a little puppy milk in her water to encourage her to drink on her own.

Thank you she will eat if I hold the food for her and she drinks water but she just don't want to move also she's has taken 3-4 steps but she has not went out to do her thing I don't know if that has any thing to do with her not wanting to walk or she can't potty

Skabialka, I'm having the same problem with my 14 year old lab. He can still walk but it's getting to the point that one day soon he won't be getting up. He has a great deal of difficulty getting up when he's laying down. The last few days he just lays there and barks until someone comes and helps.
It's so hard to watch our animals get old.
Does your dog have arthritis? There are some great powders out there that help with the pain. They are expensive but so worth it. Sadly they seem to have stopped working for our dog.
Dachshunds have many back problems, it's part of the breed. With that long back but short stature it's pretty much a given to suffer from back problems. You said that your pup is over weight, well that adds to the problem, puts more pressure on an already weaker back.
Keep her comfortable, rest is the best thing for her right now. If it's a slipped disc or something else physical, and not just old age, then the vet is your best bet.
I think you know that this may be the end, 15 years is a good long life. I hope that they can fix it, but if not then maybe it's time to make that dreaded decision every fur mother needs to make some time in their life.
Please keep us posted. I wish you all the best.

When she had her vet app they did her old age check up blood work everything. The vet called 4 days later and said she was just fine nothing new has happened between then and now I know she is old but I hate to think this is the end I was hoping she would last till we come home in Aug.
