I adopted my Rat 4months ago, from a pet shop. He was brought back in from previous owners for some reason, they couldn't tell me. Got him at 6months old, and he settled in really well. Him and my 3 yr old get on so good. We moved house recently, and when I get him out he pees everywere. Every 2 steps he will dribble, but its big patches, and then its like he literally empties his bladder. He never used to do it, and I know its probably because of the house move, but how do I stop him? He never did it before. I have to constantly change my clothes, and my daughter now doesn't want to play with him.
Any help would be great :)

Also, I want to put him on a lead and let him go in the garden. Is this OK?

Could he be sick?

I know for sure that since Rats are a desert species they do not use the bathroom nearly as often as other rodents a few drops a day approximately is how much they usually go. It could have a bladder infection or something along those lines so personally I would go get your smart little rodent checked out at the vet

And about taking him outside on a lead. I can't see it being a problem as long as it is not really cold out or raining etc.. And be sure there is nothing harmful the rat can get into. I've seen people who take their rats with them everywhere they go

I own two rats. I had an old rat, and it peed a lot. Usually, if rats pee on you, they either 1) weren't ready to play or come out or 2) they want you to have their scent (which is good). I usually just have a few blankets over me and that stops the pee. Get a diaper?:D
