Hi ATE,
I am a dual status person for US tax return. I was a resident at the start of the year 2008. The left the country in the last week of June 2008 to Canada and therefore I am a non-resident for part of the year. In my situation, according to the IRS, I need to file form 1040NR as a "Dual Status Return" and form 1040 as "Dual Status Statement". I earned about 10K when I was a resident in the US and did not earn anything after I left the US. So, my questions are 1) do I need to only fill form 1040 (lines 1 through 73d) and attach 1040NR with '0' s for lines 1 to 70 since I did not earn any money during my non-resident status, or is it the other way around? 2) I was in the state of Oklahoma during 2008, what forms do I need to file with the tax commission? More questions forthcoming! Thank you very much for all the help.
