I have a John Deere L110 that won't start. It will crank just fine, but won't fire. There isn't any gas flowing. What makes the gas flow from the tank?

Take the fuel line loose at the carburetor. Crank on the engine and see if any gas comes shooting out. If it does not, you either have a bad fuel pump or a blockage in the fuel line.

To check for a blockage, you can use some compressed air to blow through the hose from the fuel pump back towards the tank. You may want to take the fuel cap off when you do this to keep the air pressure from builing and blowing gas back at you when you stop blowing air. You can also just blow thur the line with your mouth if the taste of gas doesn't make you want to vomit. If you can blow through the line, it's not plugged. At that point, there is a good chance that your fuel pump is the problem.
There are a few other things that it could be, but they're not very common to happen.

There is a round metal covered fuel interlock solenoid that screws in below the carb bowl and holds the bowl to the carb. It needs 12v to to retract a rubber "stopper" and let fuel flow into the carb from the "stopper" at the bottom of the bowl on the end of a "plunger" that should retract when you apply 12 volts to the wire of the small fuel solenoid. Solenoid is about $70-80 by itself, but is included with $140 carb. Solenoid is a chronic problem and first thing to check after finding tank has fuel in it. Remove fuel solenoid to test more safely away from raw fuel.
