Dryer is used a LOT of the time - and is about 5 years old.

The other day - I noticed - a sqeaking noise when I first started the dryer - it had been idle all night.

I have 'stopped/restarted' it (you know, by opening the door - then closing it and immediately restarting) - it doesn't squeak, then.

It also doesn't squeak when it's running - except for that initial startup squeak.

Several ideas:

1. Dryer drums usually ride on wheels or rollers. Those could be wearing out, or they might just need a bit of lubrication.

2. The wheels usually have rubber surfaces and ride against the metal drum. It may be as simple as having something on the wheel that is making the squeak. Cleaning the wheels would probably fix it.

3. The drum is usually driven by a belt. That may be slipping over the drum. Again, cleaning the belt may fix it.
