Just so you will know that alot of our "knowledge" comes first hand, two nights ago I had my ( well my apartment) air conditioner stolen, in the middle of the night someone took 7 of the apartment air conditioners right off of the concrete slab.
So now I have to deal with
1. stolen air units (heat pumps)
2. rental issues since there is now no heat or air in the apartment
Plus we had a major store in last three weeks, so the roof is leaking and there is mold starting.
So we have the same issues as most of you have.
It will be too late most likely to get the air units back, but funny thing I live next door to a bounty hunter basicly, so I hope to have found the theives shortly if possible.

Yep, Copper and Aluminum are valuable. Thieves like linesets too. They swipe power cables to strip malls around here too. Even high voltage ones. They pull it through the conduit from the pole to the building.

Hello Padre:
What? SEVEN BIG, HUGE units?? For an excop, you sleep pretty soundly - your tenants too.
Of course, you've got insurance. Ok, I'll shutup.

Sounds like an "inside" job to me. Look for the guy with the big pickup truck...

Time to invest in some outdoor security cameras.

Yes, it was right outside of one tennants bedroom window, they looked at me strange when I asked them. Sad part, I did not notice to today, I think they scratched the side of my car carrying the units out.

I would suggest checking all local scrap yard in your area. Most likely they chopped them up and only took in the copper and brass, and maybe even the aluminum fins, but if they were dumb enough to take in the whole units, you have a decent change of catching them. If you do catch them, make sure to turn them in for discharging refrigerant into the atmosphere, as I'm sure they just cut the lines(doubt they took the time to reclaim the freon, lol) If you get these guys(and I truly hope you do((nothing I hate more than a thief)), get them for all they are worth, teach them a lesson and hope they learn from it))).
And I would really look into the outside cameras. Most thieves are dumb enough
To hit the same spot twice.

Wow, that would almost be worth hiring someone to just sit there and watch all night.
Im assuming you must live in a large city, so I'm sure asking the police to do extra patrol wouldn't really do any good. I assume your insurance will take care of this, but it still puts your tenants and you in a bad spot because the replacement can only happen so fast. I assume the robbers have labeled this complex as an easy target. Take quick action to catch them. I hope everything works out for you, as I realize this is a very serious problem they have created for you. Good luck. And please let us know how things turn out.

Sad thing, there is a officer, due to high drug problems there are officers sitting around some part of the apartment 50 percent of the time.

Yes, live right outside of Atlanta, The old place was so bad, people would break into your car with you sitting on the porch, grab something and run knowing they could out run you.
As a police officer before, I really made more "arrests" off duty around my own home area than I ever did working.
