We have VERY hard well water and can't afford the $2000 water softening unit right now (or any time soon). My question is about how to clean the tile in my shower. It is 2" slate on the floor and ceramic with slate inserts on the walls. It has been sealed with a 10 year penitrating sealer. The shower is very, very huge. It is accumulating lots of hard water buildup (whitish, which is lime) but all the hard water buildup cleaners (CLR) say not to use on porous surfaces. Any ideas what to use? Also toilets look like crap too. CLR won't work on them either. House is only 2 years old.
Thanks

White vinegar will remove hard water deposits, it may take several apps to get it clean but after that a regular spraying will keep it clean. Are your toilets looking like a rust bucket, could be iron in your water so try some Whink Whink Rust Stain Remover (http://www.whink.com/rust_stain_remover.htm) followed by regular toilet bowl cleaner.
