Since childsupport stops after high school and the age of 18 how do we get Dad to pay his part of her college education? Also do we have to go to court to stop chidsupport payment? Payment comes right out of his check

Dad only has to pay "his part" of the child's college education if there is an order or judgment somewhere saying he bears this obligation. There is NO legal requirement in California to pay your child's college education.
As to your other question, no you don't have to go to court to stop the child support (it stops as a matter of law) but you do have to apply to the court to stop the wage assignment from running and get a new order (that is, it will keep going until the employer is served another wage assigning saying the old one is terminated or support is zero). You have to also file a new Child Support Case Registry Form after the old wage assignment is terminated.

First it will depend on where you live, in some states the non custody parent may have to pay child support during college, in some states till 19 or till 20 but it will be according to the child support order in force. Even in some states where it is not required parents agree to it and the support agreement is binding.
But if your state does not require it, and the support agreement stops at 18, then there is no way to force them to pay.
Normally the person who has it coming out, will go to court to get it stopped.
