I want to get a pool heater. Looking at a Hayward 100,000 BTU for my above ground pool.
I takes a 1/2" hookup for the gas...

Problem is, the distance to the natural gas is about 125-150 (with all the bends and curves needed)

The tap location would be right at the meter. 1" line. I have a gas stove and gas furnace.

The gas company said that for the distance I need to use 1" line to the heater... but i think that seems over kill. (not to mention about $1K for the gastite line!). Now I know I dont want to starve the heater by any means... but... 1" = big bucks! Lol

Thanks!

Yes the gas company is correct you will need to use 1 inch for this distance.

Bummer!. there goes $1000 just for a tube!

Hmm.. I wonder if I should go for an electric one instead. Has copper come down in price?

Thanks Joshdta. They Hayward heater company also confirmed the 1".

Copper has come down a lot recently but that has not reached the actual price of copper wire. Depending on your rates gas or propane is usually a better cost than heating with electric.
