I have an MTD Tractor that seems to cut the grass way to low all of the sudden.. I lowered the deck and looked but everything seemed to look fine... I am using the highest setting, and its seems to be cutting grass way to short. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Have you hit anything?
Have you checked the tires air pressure? Made sure that was up?

Well my son hit a pair of pruners in the yard a few weeks back... and the tires are set at 20 psi... Thanks

Hmm, I'd go back over everything and make sure nothing got even a bit bent...

Thanks Briggsdude. I have checked everything ,even put on new blades , seems like 2 7/8 is about as high as I can cut... That sound about right? It sure looks short... Thanks Again

No it doesn't sound right, but without one to compare I can't tell you if its wrong or not...
I have forgotten how exactly they're mechanism works for lowering and raising the deck is laid out.. hmmm... got me scratchin my head right now lol
There is nothing in the way (as in the deck is hitting it and keeping it from going up) could be a possible stretched cable.

No cables, everything that pertains to the deck raising and lowering seems to be controlled by small metal links... Thanks Again

From what I've been told, most MTD's have the same linkage design for raising and lowering the deck. If it raises all the way to disengage at the top notch, it's similar to the rest. There are a parallel set of bars inside the chassis. They are mounted on curved swingarms bolted to the sides. Make sure nothing inside is bent or that a bolt in the side of the chassis is missing as it would let the deck drop. It may still work but at a lower level.
