Someone stole some furniture from me almost a year ago; can I still charge them?
Thanks
Bernie

Hello b:

The cops won't believe you because you didn't report it right away. You can sue them, but you'll have the same problem with the judge.

There were two incidents discovered within 1 hour of each other:

The first was done by an active city of edmonton police officer while off duty, and was not reported

The second was when I entered my house and discovered some of my furniture missing; that incident was reported immediately, but the rcmp officer did not come over to investigate

I don't expect to win either because the legal system is involved, but still would like to pose it to the courts.

Do you mean can you charge them criminally for the theft OR can you sue them to get the monetary loss which you suffered (charge them money)?

Individuals don't charge people with theft. They report the theft to the Police and the Police do the charging.
