View Full Version : Toilet rocking

I just installed a new toilet and it was rocking. The new toilet came with a new wax ring. The kind with the built in funnel. The funnel part was made with a hard plastic and did not sit far enough down into the closet flange. This was what was causing the rocking. So I went to the Home Depot and picked up a new wax ring, it also had the funnel. I thought it might work because it was a softer material. Same problem. I ended up using two wax rings with no funnels. And it worked out.
Did anyone ever have this kind of problem? Is it a problem with the closet flange?
The flange is the type that spins and it sits right on top on the tile floor.
Thanks Jim

The funnel is a "horn" They have the old reg wax rings in the store that should work for you. It smashes well.

This is the type of wax ring you bought.

Below is what you want. No Horn

Hi Luckyrabbit...

YUP! I've had this issue more than a few times... usually with solid plastic flanges... although you noted that yours was not solid plastic. Here, when this happens, you can take a pair of aviation snips (or scissors) and trim the plastic collar back a little or simply go over to a wax gasket without the horn as you did... both ways work fine... ;)
