How do I find out for free if a person has a warrant for their arrest?

Hi, nakkenna!

You could go down to the courthouse or police station and ask. I've done that previously and received an answer. It's also possible that the information might be available on a website. That sort of information is available in a number of counties on the web around where I live.

Thanks!

Clough - Generally the police do not like to reveal that information as it makes the person wanted know that they are coming for them at 4AM to their house.

In Ohio you cannot find out this information online or even calling the police or sheriff's office and asking. If the person wants to know they can present themselves at the police dept and ask them, but chances are real good that if they're wanted, they will be arrested on the spot. Also if someone other than the wanted person asks in person they will not reveal this information to them.

You could look online in the Clerk of Courts criminal web site for that particular county and figure out from the Docket entries if they showed up to court or not.

All I know is that I've asked an officer previously and he confirmed that someone did have a warrant out for them. That kind of information is also available in many counties in Illinois, especially if the warrant has been issued by a judge.

Thanks!
