My Sears Kenmore series 80 washing machine filling up with motor running but not agitating and spining. Any suggestions what the problem could be?

spagels - this could be caused by one of three things, #1- drive belt is loose and slipping<broken;;;;
#2- pully on motor shaft loose; the most probal cause:: the spin agitate soleniods <one or both are defective: to test these <you will need a volt-ohm meter {if you don't have one <you can get one at {lowes or home depot in the electrical dept> for about 10 to 12 dollars. When you get one get one that you can use it on no less then 250volts a?c power;; now -set the meter to the rx100 scale; , unplug the power cord from the wall< pull the washer out from the wall < remove the bottom access panel: :: ok now lets get satered:: #1- the spinn -agitator soleniods are under the tub, when actuated electrically they activate and shift the transmission into gear:: { note a defect in one or both means to change both soleniods:: } and cause the washer not being able to startto agitate or spinn:: #2- to test these out: remove one of the wires comeing to the soleniod <now clip a prob from the meter to both of the wire terminals< {meter should be already set} #3- if the neter reads _ 250 to 1000 ohms . The soleiond you are checking is good ,if it reads higher then the solinod is defective ;; note { if one or boyh are defective <then it is highly recommended to replace both soleniods::#4- if the first you check is good then test the other one the same way :: don't for get to re hook up the electric wires you took loose : on the belt there should be no more then 3/4 " play in the belt from stright on the deffecttion in the belt from stright:: i hope this helps you out ; if it does ,please rate my answers in the orange box below ;;have a ghreat day tomorrow and god bless;; f.b.e.

if your machine is the older model I have in mind, no digital controls just 1-5 control knobs depending on your machine, then its one of 3 solutions... you may have a broken motor coupler or "coupling" and it's a 20 - 25 dollar part very easy to install, less then 30 minutes work... Your door switch may be broken, even faster fix about 20 minutes tops, about the same price as the coupling depending on where you buy it... Or it may be a bad clutch, a little more work involved because you will have to partially dismantle your agitator to loosen the transmission and remove the motor along with the water pump... the model Kenmore 80 series I have in mind is somewhere between 8 and 4 years old, like I said nothing digital involved... youtube has a lot of useful how to videos, and trust me, it is as simple as it looks =]
