Hi,

I'm an international student with an F1 visa and filed a 1040EX instead of a 1040 NR I think I was told.
I have just filed for it...

I need to rectify this since I do not want to get in trouble, please let me know if the steps I need to take in order to rectify this.

Thank You

Did you file Form 1040EZ?
On F1 you are exempt from residency for 5-years. You must file non-resident tax return Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ and Form 8843. Your income is not subject to FICA taxes but you must pay federal and state income taxes. Read: Your U.S. Tax Return: U.S. Tax Filing Requirements for Non-Residents (http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/03/us-tax-filing-requirements-for-non.html)

Now you must file amended tax return Form 1040X, and 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ and Form 8843.
