1991 honda prelude: check engine light: diagnosed as a code 14 problem, which is the EACV- I was informed that it consists of actually 3 different valves. All connected to the intake manifold. Chiltons manual gives a very vague diagram and does not show or label the names of the other 2 valves. Doesn't even bring them up at all anywhere in the whole book. I need to know what their names are. What their called. etc.

In order for Hondas, and many other modern-day cars, to idle properly, the Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) needs to be cleaned. Here's how to perform this simple task:

1. Remove IACV electrical connector.

2. Remove both bolts (12 mm) securing IACV to plenum.

3. Remove both IACV hoses.

4. Clean IACV and hoses with a spray can of brake cleaner--be sure to wear safety goggles.

5. Install new O-ring, if necessary.

6. Remove air intake from throttle body. Ensure upper and lower throttle body ports are clean. Dirt tends to build-up around top port.

I would also clean the throttle valve and throttle body, while you are at it. Afterwards, install a new air filter.
