I am catholic and so is my friend/roommate. Sometimes I feel like I'm not as good a catholic as her because goes to church all the time and does church things all of the time and I don't. So I was wondering, what does god really want?

does god want us to go to daily mass every day plus mass on the weekend plus two bible studies plus a christian group plus go to church randomly just to pray plus other activities being held by the church?

or does he want us to be good people and not be mean to people and help others when they need it?

what does he want from us? Should I start going to all of the stuff going on at church? I do go to Sunday mass and one bible study but I feel like all the other stuff is a little much but it also makes me feel like she's a better catholic then me sometimes.

thanks for the advice

You can have someone that goes to church regularly but does it because of pressure or routine. Church is just a building. The only thing that matters is your heart.

Having good morals and following them beats saying 8 hail mary's because of a reptitive sin [i.e. always stealing].

In other words be a good person. The 10 commandments give you great guidelines for life.

What God wants is your heart and soul. ALL of it! Going to a church does not automatically make you a Christian. Doing only good works does not save you either.

Doing only good works does not save you either.

I believe you do have to accept Jesus in your heart to be "saved". I do believe being a good person outweighs being religious. It's your heart that really matters, not what you do to please God.

What God simply wants from us is a personal relationship that grows into spiritual intamacy. He proved this by literally becoming what he created in the flesh as our great king Jesus of nazareth, the anointed son of God. He wanted us to realize that he is a person to, and craves friendship with people who have an ability to love and reason in like manner as he. This is also the true answere to the age old question,"why are we here?". If you are truly sincere about knowing what he wants, you must find it be reading what he teaches in the gospel. The words in red are his own, and to know God it is vital that we understand them.

Nothing matters except your relationship with God. Rituals do not bring you closer to Him. Studying His word, praising Him, prayer(talk to God, He's a great listener) start to see sin as God sees it, Start to see love as God sees it, ask for His spirit in you to change your life and conform you to the image of His Son.

The bible is clear that we are to meet and worship with fellow believers. But beyond all we are suppose to live our faith.

So when not going to church what do you or them do for God to serve him and your fellow man
