Hello

I want to install a chandelier above a bathtub. What is the minimum height do I need above the bottom of the tub?

Also can more than one bedroom be on 1 acr fault breaker. And is it better to have the receptacles and lights on separtate arc faults?

Do smoke detectors need to be on arc fault breakers

This work is being done in California and the permit was pulled before October of last year.

Thank You

You will need to find out what edition of the National Electric Code is in effect in California. I tried to check at the state website, with no luck, just too much to go through.

Seems the permitting and code is done by county.

NEC 2005 edition Section 410.4(D) states the bottom of a pendant fixture shall be eight feet above the top rim of the tub or shower.

The National code states "all branch circuits in a bedroom" shall be Arc fault protected. Many states have modified that by allowing smoke detectors to to be the only wiring in a bedroom not to be protected by AFCI.

Sure more than one bedroom can be on one AFCI breaker, and yes it is a good idea to separate the lighting from the outlets.

On the code issues, best answer you can get is from your local building official or code enforcement, unless you have the time to pour through the regs at the state website (http://www.ca.gov/state/portal/myca_homepage.jsp).
