I moved out of my apartment and gave my landlord a 30 day notice my lease actually expired I was staying on a month to month basis. Well my deposit was 400.00 and when I moved I told my mother to leave key on counter she forgot to leave it and returned to North Carolina. Irepeatedly called my landlord to get a walk through done no response so now he tells me I didn't return the key for 17 days so he ia charging me everyday I kept the key. H e has the key now I retrurned to him told him it was an honest mistake he still is charging me a fee for everday I kept key is this legal

# 9. Turn in all keys.

Retention of your keys (including copies) is considered to be continued possession obligating you to pay rent. North Carolina law requires that you give your landlord an address where your security deposit refund or itemization of damages may be sent. Save a copy of this notice for your files.
