I was a renter for 2 years paying $1200.00 a month and last July 08 the owner said that he was giving the home to his daughter (who had gotten married) but that things would not change regarding my renters status. Well on March 3, 2009 he handed me a 30 day notice. Well after doing a bit of investigating I found out that he had FHA loan and was renting to me for the past 2 years (I wondered why I was still getting all of their mail). I also found out that the house went through a short sale (Nov 2008) and was not given to his daughter but purchased by his son-in- law (which is fraud because he is married to his daughter) and I was still paying him rent to previous owner up until March 2009. As a renter what am I entitled to if anything?

First, I don't see any fraud here. Second, unless you have a lease that expires sometime in the future, you were on a month to month basis an d the landlord can terminate the tenancy with 30 days notice.

You need to read your last lease to determine what rights you might have, but I don't see much.

^^^ What he said... There could be a bit of mortgage fraud in the FHA loan IF he was in his 2 years he had to hold the home as his primary residence. If not, he is free to rent the property out.

Him selling the property to his son-in-law, regardless if it is a short sale, is not against the law. If the bank approved the sale then it is all kosher.

As far as your lease, if you still have a lease agreement with him that extends past the time he told you to get out, then he can not kick you out. If you do not have a lease agreement, then as said above, you are month to month and he can kick you out at the end of any month!

Yes there may well be mortgage fraud, but that has nothing to do with your status as a renter, and your obigation to pay rent.

A short sale, does not change your status, you are still a renter, but you now rent from the new owner, if the new owner appoints the old owner to be his property manager this is legal also.

You lived there, and you paid rent, if there is no lease, he can give you a 30 day notice to move out, that is legal and has no bearing on any mortgage fraud at all.
