Hi, I'm jasmine, I'm african american with fairly thick hair, around christmas I dyed my hair a brownish red color from its original color of dark brown. Im thinking of dying it back dark, maybe a off black to make it healthier and et rid of some of the bleachy chemical. I need to know if dying it darker will help my hair get back healthy. Ive noticed breakage even though I condition once a week. If I dye it darker, the dyr won't damage it more will it? It will only tone it down? What affordable prducts do you recommend to get my hairs moisture and elasticy back to normal?:(

Dyeing it darker will damage the already-damaged hair a bit more. This may or may not be significant. Chemical treatments of the hair always damage hair. There are no exceptions.
The new growth will grow back "healthy". Hair doesn't heal once it's out of the hair follicle. It has no blood supply and the chemical reactions that the body uses to heal itself don't occur within the hair shaft.

If you want to go darker, I'd suggest a semi-perm color. This deposits color onto the hair shaft which is a better option for you. Often these have conditioners built in and won't cause further damage. This will last 6-8 washes and is a great option for hair that is already chemically treated.
Unfortunately you won't be able to "fix" the damage to your hair. You just want to care for it and be especially gentle until the color-stripped portion grows out completely. I'd suggest deep conditioning once a week, limiting heat styling, and seek a professional for all chemical treatments and regular trims.
