My brother and I were trying to remember the name and author if poss of a sf/fantasy paperback novel we read in England in the early 1990s...
We seem to remember that it was one book comprised of three novellas, presumably written by the same person. The protagonist was male, and his wife was dead. However she was able to communicate with him through a kind of "cube". The dead were able to "live" by using a drug. The dead and the living were not to mix. He was looking for (chasing? ) his wife. Eventually he was killed by the dead, and was reunited with his wife.
They went on to kill extinct birds (dodos?? ).
My brother remembers that one of the novellas may have been titled "Leaving" or "Going" and another "Walking (or Living) with the Dead". Possibly. Something like that.
Please help - this is driving us nuts.
Thanks
Bridie
