A alarm starting going off on my gas furnace today and it has a red light flashing. There is a little warning on there saying to call immediately if this happens and that it could be a problem with the attic vent... who do I call and is there anything I can do other than shut it off for now?

What brand furnace do you have? Turn the breaker off

Is this a trailer house furnace, possibley a coleman? Please let me know. If it is a coleman, you will be OK just turning the switch on the box off. Most trailer(or manufactured) homes have a fresh air intake damper and an attic fan to bring in fresh air. They are not needed(at least in my area they are not code.) Turn the alarm off(should be a switch to do this, and if you are worried about it, call in a tech and have them see if it's the damper, or the attic fan that has failed. Once again, I wouldn't worry about it(unless it is a true gas alarm, in which case, I would shut the main gs to the house off until you can get someone in there to test for gas leaks.) please let me know more about your situation.

Actually we figured out what it was but thanks so much for your reply it ended up being wired to something that lead to our porch light and from the rain we received on Easter (wonderful Eastern Wa weather) it shorted it out which tied into that. Thankfully my dad is an engineer and had the smarts to figure it out for me before I spent the money on someone to check out or the parts that totalled to $400... I am quite thankful! Thanks for replying though I greatly appreciate it I was scared.

Thanks so much for the reply thankfully it ended up being an electrical issue and not a true issue with the furnace itself. The people that owned my house before me did some not so good make shift wiring jobs and so I am finding out slowly what all damage unseen that they have done to my poor house.

Glad you got it figured out.
