Hi,

I am a student in CA university since sept 2007. I have one W2 form from my university in CA. I have another W2 form from my internship in WA. While filling the federal tax returns I used both W2 forms.
WA has not state tax.
However while filling CA tax return, do I need to show my entire income (from WA and CA) as the total taxable income?

Can I not exclude the income earned in WA and just file the CA tax return with my university W2 details?

Do I need to pay tax in CA for the income earned in WA?

It would be of immense help if you could please let me know the answers to these questions.

Thanks,
Vivek

Normally if your stay away from CA is temporary or transitory, then CA will tax you on your WA income.
I am not sure if this is true for international students or not. Check with other Tax Experts.
