I was granted asylum in 1998- I never applied for my green card till last year- I have intervieew to get my green card next month - do you think it will be backdated from the day I was granted asylum or the day I applied for green card- hence if I am backdated till 1998 I can apply for citizenship??

You can't apply for naturalization when you're not an LPR yet. You will be questioned a lot about your status and why you did not maintain your status within time frame, etc.
Consult an experienced immigration attorney as you need some coaching on this matter.

You were granted asylum, and thus qualified to apply for permanent residence in 1998. You waited 13 years to apply. You have yet to be granted PR. Please note, there are many reasons for your PR to be denied. Please follow up with more care.
