Hello, I was in North carolia for 3 months last year( jan to march) and was unemployed so I got unemployment checks from North Carolina. Then I got a job in Massachusetts and worked there the rest of the year. Problem is, I am looking for an filing extension so do I send out extension filing papers to both states. Someone told me that I only need to do it for Massachusetts.

Check for filing requirements of North Carolina. Also may be the unemployments payments are not taxable in North Carolina. Income earned in Massachusetts is not reported to N C.
